About More Happy Times in Healthcare
When thinking about your health and your vision for your health, it may be helpful to identify “happy times” or “happy things” that you associate with your own healthcare experiences. Focusing on positive healthcare experiences will help you view your future healthcare situations through a positive lens, making you a strong healthcare consumer, one who expects positive outcomes.
This eDoc is organized around key stories that recount significant positive events in the lives of eleven patients. Each story describes the patients encounter with the healthcare system and healthcare providers, the challenges that the patient faced, and how the patient successfully managed the challenge. A positive attitude and being proactive on the part of the patient were key in each case. The stories reflect the need for every one of us to be responsible for our own healthcare.
Brief descriptions of positive experiences are included between each of the eleven key stories. The brief descriptions were submitted by real patients as part of a web-based survey. There was a clear pattern in the 2,000 positive submissions that were received to the web-based survey. The experiences are divided, between stories into nine topic areas. They are:
- Hospital Helpers
- Health Plans are Not Always Bad Guys
- Little Things Mean A lot
- Listen to Me
- Tell Me…..Slowly
- Make It Easy on Me
- Doctors Making a Difference
- Going the Extra Mile to Make a Patient Smile
- Really Nice Nurses
