Answer: There are actually 2 root terms-osteo referring to bone and chondro referring to cartilage. Itis means inflammation so this would mean inflammation of bone and cartilage. The question I would ask is inflammation of what-for example, is it costochonritis which is inflammation of the rib cartilage.
