Question: Are there rewards for health group members who take good care of themselves?
From: Mitzie of Fresno, CA
Answer: I am pleased to answer yes. Several health insurance companies and health care organizations are providing creative incentive plans to encourage people to participate in wellness and preventive activities. Organizations are offering lower deductibles, credits for products and services, movie tickets, gift certificates, discounts for sports equipment, etc. To earn their rewards, consumers voluntarily have blood tests to check cholesterol, quit smoking, have blood pressure checks, attend exercise programs, and lose weight. Even states are showing increased interest in offering their Medicaid and SCHIP beneficiaries incentives for timely child immunizations, prenatal care, weight control. Presidential candidates are also considering rewards for healthy behavior.
